Paul McCartney & Wings, often just called “Wings“, was a British Group formed in 1971 by Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and his wife Linda.
The McCartney’s, along with Guitarist Denny Laine, were the only three permanent members of the band, while the group was augmented by a number of other musicians during the course of it’s career.
Wings was extremely popular in the US during the 1970′s and ended up releasing 23 singles during their career. All 23 singles charted into the Top-40 of the Billboard Charts.
Their many hits included:
My Love
Live and Let Die
Jet
Band on the Run
Silly Love Songs
Listen to What the Man Said
Let Em In
Maybe I’m Amazed
With a Little Luck
Goodnight Tonight
Getting Closer
Coming Up
and many others…
Wings released 7 Studio Albums between 1971-1979. Four of those Albums went to #1 in the US.
Six of their singles went to #1 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in the US.
Wings only had one fewer #1 single here in the US than the solo careers of John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr…combined.
The group won 4 Grammy Awards during it’s career.
The band broke up in 1981 as Paul McCartney went on to have a hugely successful solo career. Linda McCartney passed away in 1998 after battling Cancer.
Paul McCartney is still one of the most popular musicians in the world.
While he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of The Beatles, Paul McCartney was also inducted as a performer in 1999 based on his solo career and his work with Wings.

A Chicago oldies station once ran a TV commercial, with Paul and Wings playing in the background, and a little girl who walks up to dad and says “Daddy, was Paul McCartney in a band before ‘Wings’?”
“No, sweetie. The Beatles are just a tale told to frighten small children”, would’ve been my answer. Sorry, Beatle-Maniacs HQ is 2 doors down – this is strictly Bangles ‘N’ Mash territory.

The era was dead. We grew older. Wings made us feel the era might extend a bit and we could be young a while longer. Until we get our angel wings.
