Music Flashback: Stevie Nicks

Like many teenage guys of the late 1970′s and early 1980′s, I had a major crush on singer Stevie Nicks. My bedroom wall, covered in a dozen posters of bikini-clad starlets and models, also contained a huge poster of Stevie Nicks. I have always loved her music, whether it be her work with Fleetwood Mac or her great solo projects, she has always been one of my favorite female singers.

Last year, Fleetwood Mac made a swing through Dallas on their latest tour and the local entertainment critic wrote a review in the paper that contained an observation that floored me. He was watching the band play and came to the realization that Fleetwood Mac has been successful for so long that out of all the members of the band, Stevie was the youngest onstage at age 61! Yes,…… beautiful and sultry voiced Stevie Nicks is now 61!

She still looks and sounds great but it sure is hard to believe she has been a fixture in the world of music for the last 35 years!

Some of her classic songs over the years, both with Fleetwood Mac and solo, have included:

Rhiannon
Sara
Gold Dust Woman
Go your own Way
Gypsy
Dreams
Landslide
Stop Dragging my Heart Around
Leather and Lace
Stand Back
If Anyone Falls
I Can’t Wait
Rooms on Fire
Edge of Seventeen
Nightbird
The Chain

And many other greats……..

My favorite song of hers is “Sara“, still a hauntingly beautiful song after all these years.

Along with the other members of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Stevie Nicks has charted 10 singles onto the Billboard Top-40 Charts during her solo career.

Another 5 singles on which she sang in support of other artists charted into the Billboard Top-40.

Her most successful single has been “Stop Draggin My Heart Around” which peaked at #3 in 1981.

She has released 6 solo albums in her career.

She and Fleetwood Mac are still active and are still on the road touring.

And she still looks and sounds as great as ever!

And on August 12th, 2011……I am getting to see her in Concert again!
