The Knack
One of the great One-Hit wonder bands of the 1970′s, though technically they were actually a Two-Hit wonder.
Formed in 1978, the band hit the big time in 1979 with their debut single “My Sharona” which spent 6 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top-40 charts.
The group followed the success of “My Sharona” with a second Top-40 hit, “Good Girls Don’t” which reached a peak of #11 on the Billboard Charts.
Then, the group faded off into musical oblivion.
They released a total of 6 Albums from 1979-2003 but could never again find commercial success or find another hit single.
Three of the four original band members are still with the group and continue to tour the globe.
“My Sharona” finished as the #1 song of 1979 in the year-end Billboard Charts for that year.
The song sparked some mild controversy in it’s day when it was discovered that the song was written about the lead singers then 16yr old girlfriend Sharona. She appears on the sleeve for the single. (below)
That great song came out during my Freshman year of High School. The way every kid in school sang that song for the rest of the year would have had you thinking that “The Knack” were well on their way to musical super-stardom. But, they never made it to true Superstardom.
The song is still an instantly recognizable classic all these decades later.
Lead Singer Doug Fieger’s brother is a high-powered Attorney who represented Dr. Jack Kevorkian.
Lead Singer Doug Fieger died on Feb. 14, 2010 after a battle with Cancer.

That’s quite a bit of …. inspiration … that girlfriend had! I can see why Doug Fieger was moved to music (among other things). and while this may sound weird, it’s nice to know that cancer got him, as opposed to drugs.
But hey, the Knack must have been pretty successful. After all, you know you’ve made it musically when Weird Al Yankovic covers one of your songs. (“My Bologna”, in this case.)

Thanks for the update. The Kevorkian connection is interesting.
(By the way, the more I see your fine governor in the news, the more I want to vomit. No wonder you dislike the guy, Mark! What an ass!)

I agree with John- you’ve really made it when Weird Al covers ya. (kind of like actors know they’ve made it when they are the guest on Sesame Street)
M m m my sharona! I grew up dancing around to that song. Instantly recongizable by the first few notes.
I think I’ll put on and have my 5 & 7 year old listen to it- they will be sure to dance and my son now does air guitar. (so proud)

P.S. Hey, Mark- I found a quick (and safe) way to lose 2-5lbs a week! NO LIE. I’ll be blogging about my progress on Mondays. This might help you reach your goal quicker and pass the word to others. It’s a great program for those only wanting to lose 5lbs to those needing to lose 100+. There are plans for seniors, teens, diabetics, etc. It really is amazing. I’m excited!
