Another 1980′s classic comedy courtesy of Writer/Director John Hughes. I saw this movie in England when it came out in 1986. I knew Matthew Broderick from the movie “War Games” but the rest of the cast were virtual unknowns at that time.
As you know, Matthew Broderick (Ferris) has gone on to a successful career in films and on stage, and is married to “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker.
Alan Ruck (Cameron) has become a successful film and Television character actor and was a longtime co-star on the Michael J. Fox sitcom “Spin City“.
Mia Sara (Sloane) did some films and as far as I can tell, has all but disappeared from show business.
Jeffrey Jones (Eeeeeeeddddd Rooooooney) has also become a successful film and television character actor.
Jennifer Grey (Jeanie Bueller) went on to Dirty Dancing and a number of other films.
A then unknown Charlie Sheen appears near the end of the film as the drugged out young guy in the police station that starts hitting on Jeanie Bueller.
Matthew Broderick was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role in the film. I am surprised that Jeffrey Jones did not receive a supporting actor nomination for his role as Ed Rooney. He pretty much steals every scene that he is in as the hard nosed/doofus/Clint Eastwood wannabe Vice-Principal on the trail of Ferris Bueller throughout the movie.
The movie still holds up well today and is easily in my personal top-10 of all-time comedy favorites.
I still love Ferris Bueller’s motto as recited in the film…
‘Life moves pretty fast; and you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you’re gonna miss it.’
And finally who can forget popular Political analyst/humorist/author Ben Stein’s memorable scene as the dullest teacher on the face of the planet and his classic dialogue of….
“Bueller…….Bueller…..Bueller……..Bueller……..Bueller………..Bueller………”

Yes, a classic! Growing up, this movie, along with E.T. (Elliott puts the thermometer against a light bulb to feign a fever), sure taught me a thing or two about how to get more time at home to watch my beloved game shows.

If I recall, this was the first movie to have the “after the credits” bit, as a thank-you to people who hung through all the credits (or like me, waited for all the idiots to fight each other to be first out of the theatre).
And what Chicagoan can’t enjoy the beauty of the Windy City as the backdrop of all the fun and games!

I love this movie! I love the “Bueller…Bueller…” part. I also like the quote where the girl says, “Um, he’s sick. My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.”

Don’t tease me, bro. I’m in real pain here! A movie I love in the town I love, played in about the only baseball stadium I can tolerate being inside.
I don’t suppose you could pass the hat round the harem, maybe get me a Greyhound to Chicago? PUH-LEEZE?
Shoot, for this kind of event, I’ll ride in a truck fulla cow dung! In the rain! NUDE!! (Shoot, just broke that ever-precious TMI barrier there, didn’t I?)

Sorry, my friend, I’ve been screaming so loud since I read that news in the Chicago Tribune (that’s what I get for checking my hometown paper), I wasn’t able to pay full attention to what I was writing.
I’ll give you 15 minutes to secure your breakables, then I’m gonna go downstairs and bang my head against my basements’ walls. Prepare for a 5.2 to 5.5 down there. 80
