Hot Chicks dig the Dorks!!
Donnie Iris had his time in the One-Hit Wonder spotlight in 1980 with his #29 Billboard Chart hit “Ah Leah“.
I always liked this song and don’t know why it did not go higher on the charts.
Maybe it was Donnie Iris himself. Seeing the video for this song makes you see what Buddy Holly might have looked like if he branched out into “harder-edged” music back in his era.
After seeing the Video, my love for the song took a major torpedo hit. (But remained afloat)
Donnie Iris did actually have two other songs that hit the Billboard Top-40 charts, both in 1982, “My Girl” and “Love is like a Rock”. Those songs do not ring a bell at all in my idiot brain, unlike “Ah Leah” which has been stuck in my head for 30 years. So, give the man his due, he is officially “Donnie Iris..3 hit Wonder“.
He continues to record new music and frequently tours with his band, Donnie Iris and the Cruisers. When not on the road, he now works for a mortgage company in Pennsylvania.
Oh man, is this the dork with “Love can rock you/Never stop you. Ah……. Love is like a rock.”? Geez, that song haunts my brain!
So when do we get Olivia newton-John? And does Cher count, since she covered SO many decades? (Do check out the movie “Burlesque” – Christina Aguilera sings fairly well, but is kinda lame in the acting department, but Cher still rocks!) And we GOTTA get a little “Auntie Entity”. (Bonus points for recognition – double points for movie of origin!)

Oddly, I’ve NEVER heard this song, any of the others, or this guy! I usually like everything, and basically anything played on the radio, I’ve heard. Strange.
In response to John- Olivia yes, but NO CHER..no cher…do you believe in love (God, my hubby and I hate that song because it never leaves your head.) See, it’s stuck now, thx!

Sandi – Great job on the weight! I kinda agree with ya on Cher….. I already have a profile on Olivia waiting in the wings…..but never did one on Cher….. Sorry to inflict poor Donnie Iris on you…. this was a big song during my freshman year of HS……

I remember the songs but not the name. But I’m really bad on details having to do with popular culture–really bad. Sara mocks me for how bad I am! I’m the IDIOT when it comes to stuff like this.
