Another of the great groups that I never got to see Live in Concert.
Great group.
Great catchy songs.
One the strangest looking lead singers that a band could have…..Ric Ocasek
But Ric Ocasek gets the last laugh because he has been married to Supermodel Paulina Porizkova for the last 20 years. (She appeared in the video for the song “Drive”)
The Boston-based New Wave Group had 12 singles reach the Billboard Top-40 charts over the course of their career.
The Cars were a successful group from 1976-1988. Their many hits included:
“Just what I Needed”
“My Best Friends Girl”
“Let the Good Times Roll”
“Shake it Up”
“Let’s Go”
“You Might Think”
“Magic”
“Drive”
“Hello Again”
“Tonight she comes”
“Touch and Go”
and many others…..
My Personal Favorite: “Drive”
(“Drive” was directed by Actor Timothy Hutton)
Their Videos were staples on MTV during the early and mid 1980′s.
The Cars were:
Ric Ocasek Vocals/Guitar/Supermodel Magnet
Benjamin Orr Vocals/Bass
Elliot Easton Guitar
Greg Hawkes Keyboards
David Robinson Drums
Sadly, Benjamin Orr, who sang lead on a number of hits including “Just what I needed”, “Let’s go”, and “Drive” passed away in 2000 at the age of 53 after battling Cancer.
The remaining members of The Cars have now reunited and have recorded their first studio album since 1987 and are now on tour.

I used to wear a Cars belt buckle back in the day, when I wore my jeans. I can’t tell you how many times some guy would ask me what that meant. I used to think they were just trying to talk to me, but none of them knew who the band was! That became a litmus test of sorts– helped me weed them out!
“Since I Held You” is my favorite.

Liked ‘em, but not a huge fan. Late 80s stuff kinda got lost in the background, except for (shudder) Michael Bolton. The price I had to pay for chasing women. (But dang, what a catch!

Didn’t I just see Ric whatever his name is on Daily Show or Colbert or something? I think just in the last week or so.
The 80′s music just passed me by…..I was too busy with all the other stuff in my life.

Queen Of The Courtroom – I believe Ric Ocasek was on Colbert either Wednesday night or Thursday night last week. Check at ComedyCentral.com for the episode.
