Still a huge sex symbol when I was a teen….
Raquel Welch is simply one of the greatest Hollywood Sex Symbols and Icons of any era.
Prior to acting, she worked as a Weather Girl at a San Diego, Ca TV station.
She also worked as a Model in Dallas , and New York.
The poster pictured above, from the 1966 film “One Million Years B.C.” was the best selling poster of the 1960′s.
Her film and Television career started in the mid 1960′s and she quickly became a prominent sex symbol of the 60′s and 70′s.
Playboy Magazine listed her as “The Most Desired Woman” of the 1970′s.
She has appeared in nearly 50 Films and on dozens of TV series over the course of her career.
She won a Golden Globe Award for the 1973 film “The Three Musketeers“.
She was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago in 1940 to a Bolivian Father and American Mother.
She turned down the lead in the 1968 film “Barbarella” which was played by Jane Fonda.
Auditioned for the role of Mary Ann on “Gilligan’s Island” in the early 1960′s.
Another autograph success in my hobby as she was kind enough to sign a photo that I had mailed to her. Still a beautiful lady 70 years old!
She still takes occasional acting roles, her most recent being the short-lived 2008 sitcom “Welcome to the Captain“.
Sexy? Yes, of course. But it goes so much further than that. I think she’s the most beautiful women in the world. Statuesque features, dignity, confidence without arrogance. Marilyn couldn’t even shine Sofia’s shoes.

I loved her appearance on Sienfeld. Also, look for a little movie called “Mother, Juggs and Speed.” It’s a “dramedy” about a 2-bit ambulance service, with Raquel (“Juggs”) as the secretary turned EMT. It’s got some hokey drama, but the comedy is great, and it has Bill Cosby playing a “loose cannon” party guy. Very good, highly recommended.
And who else could have imbedded the phrase “fur bikini” into the minds of millions of men (and whoever else as well)?
