Music Flashback: The Eagles

The Eagles are a Los Angeles based Rock Band first started in 1971.

At it’s inception, the group was comprised of members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner.

The foursome originally began as session musicians and as the backing band for singer Linda Ronstadt. After backing Ronstadt, they decided to form their own group.

Their debut album “Eagles” was released in 1972.

Guitarist Don Felder joined the group during the making of the 1974 album “On the Border”.

Founding member Bernie Leadon would leave the band during the “One of these Nights” tour in 1975. He was replaced by guitarist Joe Walsh.

The 1976 album “Hotel California” would be the groups most successful album and is widely considered one of the top albums in music history. That album would see the departure of Randy Meisner and the addition of bass player Timothy B. Schmit to the band.

The band released the album “The Long Run” in 1979 and then abruptly broke up in 1980 with each member going on to pursue solo careers.

The group would not reunite and release a new album until 1994 with “Hell freezes Over”.

In 1998, The Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2001, Guitarist Don Felder was fired from the group.

In 2007, the group released the album “Long Road out of Eden” which was the groups first album of all-new material since 1979.

The Eagles today are:

Don Henley - Vocals, Guitar, Drums

Responses

  1. Glenn Frey has done a lot of TV music, especially for Miami Vice. “Smuggler’s Blues”, from the episode of the same name, had quite some solo chart success, if memory serves.
Joe Walsh – highly under-rated as a guitarist. Maybe not first-tier like Clapton or Knopfler, but very skilled nonetheless.
    A truly epic band!

  2. Awesome pic for a spotlight blog, Idiot. I was, am, and always will be a huge Eagles fan. Their reunion album is even good, where normally reunion albums suck dead zebra ass. Great post!

  3. One of the greatest bands ever, period. You rock, Idiot. I have “Hotel California” on vinyl, stored in a secure location…

  4. Brainrants – Yep, albums like that are few and far between these days. That title song is still instantly recognizable after just a few chords…..even by my kids…..35 years after it came out….. :)

  5. Interesting post on the Eagles. I am a kid of the 70′s, so they of course played heavy in my teen rotation.

I have boycotted them now, though, primarily for the way the fired Don Felder.
BTW, you failed to mention he alone, wrote Hotel California.

They fired him because he sued them over the accounting on the “hell freezes over” tour.

And turns out, they had not only cheated him, but formed a “sub-corporation” to cheat him out of future royalties.

Didn’t wash in the court and they fired him because they were caught being greedy rock stars.

I won’t see them ever again.

  6. I love the Eagles and saw them live in Toronto a year ago. They have aged better than the Stones…Don Henley is my face and I play him every day in my car..uh his CD…

  7. Chris – Thanks for clarifying that….. I had brief images of a bound and gagged Don Henley kicking the inside of your trunk in a desparate bid to escape….. :)

  8. Very very good music-Rodolfo-Brasil-
