Steve Winwood is an English Singer/Songwriter who writes and performs Rock, Jazz, and Blues inspired music.
He started as a member of The Spencer Davis Group in 1963, a group that is best known for their hits “Gimme Some Lovin” and “I’m a Man“.
Winwood left in 1967 to start the group “Traffic“, a group that saw success in the United Kingdom, but not here in the US.
Traffic broke up in 1969 and Winwood then formed “Blind Faith“, a group which also included Eric Clapton. That band then broke up after only one album and one tour.
Steve Winwood released his first solo album in 1977.
It was the 1980 release of the album “Arc of a Diver” that really launched Winwood’s solo recording career.
To date, he has recorded 9 Studio albums in his career.
As a solo artist, he has placed 10 songs into the Billboard Top-40 Charts.
His top singles have been “Higher Love” and “Roll with It“, both of which reached #1 on the Billboard Charts.
His hits have included:
Arc of a Diver
Valerie
When You See a Chance
Roll With it
Higher Love
Holding On
The Finer Things
Don’t You Know What the Night Can Do
One and Only Man
Freedom Overspill
Still in the Game
Back in the High Life Again
The single “Higher Love” earned him two Grammy Awards in 1986, one for Record of the Year, and one for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
He is an accomplished instrumentalist playing guitar, bass, piano, organ, and drums.
In 2008, Rolling Stone Magazine rated Steve Winwood as #33 in it’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All-Time.
Steve Winwood still records and tours, most recently touring with Eric Clapton.

I like your flashbacks, even though I was never a Winwood fan.

He’s one of those artists that I like but don’t know why, like Eric Clapton or Tiny Tim.

Oh, my friend, what a challenge! I think from now on, I’m gonna have to post the opening line to a Barry Manilow song every day. I’ll turn you into a Fanilow yet!
You know, when the name tune from Steve Winwood’s album first hit the charts, I always wondered just why his diver was “off-colour”. How can you tell dirty jokes with a scuba regulator in your mouth?
(Hey, I was young and stupid – well, stupid, anyway….)

Love Winwood. But I didn’t realize he’d been in a band with Clapton. Love Clapton even more. Good stuff.
