Music Flashback: Berlin

Berlin is an American New Wave Band that was popular during the early and mid 1980′s.

It was the 1982 release of the bands second album, “Pleasure Victim” that gained the group notoriety.

Their first hit was the 1982 single “Sex (I’m a….)” which was banned by many radio stations due to its explicit lyrics. The song made it to #62 on the Billboard Charts and also had a video featured frequently on MTV.

That album also spawned the hit “The Metro” which reached #58 on the Billboard Top-100 Charts.

The groups third album, “Love Life” was released in 1984. It’s signature hit was “No more Words” which peaked at #23 on the Billboard Charts.

The groups fourth album, “Count Three and Pray” produced their biggest hit in 1986 with the #1 smash “Take my Breath Away“, a song featured prominently in the hit movie “Top Gun“.

“Take my Breath Away” won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Song.

The song has been featured in many movies, television shows, and commercials since its release in 1986.

Terri Nunn – Vocals
John Crawford – Bass
David Diamond – Synthesizer

They also utilized a number of backing musicians.

Berlin broke up in 1987. Terri Nunn retained the legal rights to the name Berlin and reformed the band with new members in 1999.

The group has released a number of new albums since 1999, but has yet to have another single crack the Billboard Top-40 since “Take my Breath Away” in 1986.

Terri Nunn also had a stint as an actress during the 1970′s and 80′s and appeared on such shows as “Barnaby Jones”, “Vegas”, “Lou Grant”, “Trapper John MD”, “Family”, “Making the Grade”, and others.
