Music Flashback: Mr. Mister

Mr. Mister was an American Rock Band popular during the mid 1980′s.

They released their first album in 1984 but did not find success on the charts until the 1985 release of the album “Welcome the Real World“.

That album would produce 3 Top-10 singles, including two that would reach #1 on the Charts.

The first single, “Broken Wings” rose to #1 on the Billboard Top-40 charts in 1985.

The follow-up, “Kyrie” also reached #1 on the charts, charting in 1986.

The third single “Is it Love?” reached #8 on the Billboard Top-40 charts in 1986.

The band consisted of:

Richard Page – Vocals, Bass
Steve George – Keyboards
Pat Mastelotto – Drums
Steve Farris – Guitar

They would return to the charts in 1987 with the hit “Something real” which peaked at #29 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

Richard Page is a sought-after songwriter and has written songs for artists including Madonna, Hall & Oates, Celine Dion, Meat Loaf, The Pointer Sisters, Chaka Khan, and many others.

At various points in his career, Richard Page turned down offers to be the new lead singer of Toto and Chicago at times when both bands were looking for new leads. (Bet he regrets those decisions!)

The group broke up in 1989 after only releasing 3 Albums in their brief career.

  1. Not one of my all time favorite bands . . . but I love the sound and lyrics of Broken Wings and Kyrie.

    Thanks for sharing, Mark!
Music is such an awesome journal of life.

  2. nrhatch – How true. To me, music is almost like an audio photo album of my life. I can hear a song and will instantly remember the time period of my life in which that song was popular. :)

  3. Never really got into these guys, but “Kyrie” is a GREAT song! And how much more perfect could they have made it for live performances, with the bridge that practically DEMANDS clapping along?
Wow – flashback to the 80s. Good times! Thanks, buddy!

  4. No-Hio – It always amazes me how some bands can strike it so big real quick…..and then dissapear off the face of the earth just as quickly. Most bands would kill for 3 Top-10 hits on one album….. and then for some reason…. POOF…. the band just crashed and burned……

  5. I’d bet money it had something to do with a lit match near that one dude’s hair.

  6. H.E. ELLIS – You are probably right…..though that is what I look like when I get out of the shower and hang upside down…. :)
