George Harrison really needs no introduction.
Though often overshadowed by some of his Beatles Band-mates, George Harrison was in his own right, a gifted Singer, Songwriter, and Musician.
George was often referred to as “The Quiet Beatle“.
George Harrison released 13 Studio Albums and a number of concert and compilation Albums as a Solo Artist.
As a Solo Artist, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
Over the course of his solo career, he charted 14 singles onto the Billboard Top-40 Charts in the US.
He was a mainstay on the Billboard Charts during much of the early 1970′s.
Four of his singles went to #1 on the Billboard Charts.
His songs included:
My Sweet Lord (#1)
Isn’t It A Pity (#1)
What is Life
Give Me Love
Dark Horse
You
Blow Away
All Those Years Ago (#1)
Got My Mind Set On You (#1)
When We Was Fab
His awards include 2 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award.
A gifted Songwriter, some of the Beatles hits that he wrote included “While my Guitar gently weeps”, “Something”, “Here Comes the Sun”, “Taxman”, and others.
In the late 1980′s, he formed a group with music giants Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison called “The Travelling Wilburys“. That group charted a number of singles on the Billboard Rock Charts in the late 1980′s and early 1990′s.
George Harrison died of Cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.
In late 2011, the singer was profiled in an HBO Documentary by Director Martin Scorcese entitled “Living in the Material World“.

It’s funny how music skips generations. I refused to listen to the Beatles growing up because they belonged to my parent’s generation. My 14 year-old bass playing son loves George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and especially Bob Marley. Go figure.

H.E. ELLIS – Your 14yr old is well on his way to having great musical taste
Mine, on the other hand, well…… I’m still working on him…….. He cringes at anything pre-2000, but give me time…..

John – I just saw that Documentary about George and did not realize he had written most of his great classics while still with the Beatles, but could not get many of his songs onto the abums because of Paul and John…… What a shame. You are right, “What is Life” is a classic song
