“10” is a 1979 Romantic comedy that launched the career of Dudley Moore into stardom here in the US, and also introduced the world to relative newcomer Bo Derek.
The film starred:
Dudley Moore – George Webber
Julie Andrews – Samantha Taylor
Bo Derek – Jenny Hanley
Robert Webber – Hugh
Brian Dennehy – Don
Dee Wallace – Mary Lewis
The Film was directed by Julie Andrew’s husband, Blake Edwards, who had previously directed films such as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and the “Pink Panther” films starring Peter Sellers.
Blake Edwards also wrote the script. He got the inspiration for the movie after spotting a beautiful young woman on her way to her wedding.
The lead roles played by Moore and Andrews were originally supposed to be played by George Segal and Shirley MacLaine.
Other ladies considered for Derek’s role as Jenny included Christie Brinkley, Melanie Griffith, and Kim Basinger.
Although the film made Bo Derek an International Sex Symbol, her later movie career languished and she never had another film with great commercial success until she had a minor role in the 1995 Chris Farley/David Spade comedy “Tommy Boy“.
Brian Dennehy had a minor role as a bartender. He would go on to be a prolific character actor in films and television throughout the 80′s and 90′s. Dee Wallace also had a minor role. She soon married and became Dee Wallace Stone and had roles in films such as “E.T.” and “Cujo”.
Julie Andrews was at the time, the biggest star in the film, already famous for the classic “The Sound of Music”, “Mary Poppins” and many other films.
Dudley Moore would go on to a very successful career in American Films, including an Oscar Nomination for his role in “Arthur“.
Dudley Moore passed away in 2002 at the age of 66.

One of the movies I caught bits of while my friend worked at a theatre multiplex. Not a huge fave, though I do like Dudley Moore in it. Bo did star in a semi-hit, something about a Killer Whale a la “Jaws”. I think that was her swan song in movies, both her AND her character (who gets a leg chomped, if I recall).
At least the “corn row craze” was fairly short-lived!

This is a movie I heard a lot about but never saw. I think it was during my emergence into the awareness of feminist issues. Maybe should have given it a chance?
