The great “Risky Business” was released in 1983.
First of all, let me stress…I have never been a huge fan of Tom Cruise. With that said, I still love this classic film and if I had to pick a favorite Tom Cruise movie, this would be it.
As a guy, we could have cared less about Tom Cruise, we remember this more as the film that introduced Rebecca De Mornay to film screens across the world.
This was a great teen rebellion flick of the early 1980′s that had every teen boy wanting to turn their house into an illegal brothel.
It also immortalized Tom Cruise dancing and lip-syncing in his underwear to “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, a scene which has been recreated in tons of movies, TV shows, and commercials ever since.
It is rumored that the big-budget sci-fi epic “AVATAR” cost upwards of $500 Million dollars to make. Risky Business cost $6 Million dollars to make, and I much preferred Risky Business.
Today, $6 Million dollars would not be enough to get Tom Cruise to even read the script.
Tom Cruise was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his performance in the film.
Entertainment Weekly named it one of the 50 best High School movies of all-time.
Tom Hanks and Nicolas Cage both auditioned for the role of Joel, played by Cruise.
Sharon Stone auditioned for the role of Lana, played by Rebecca De Mornay.
Sean Penn has a brief cameo in the film as the man sitting in the passenger seat of the Porsche the first time that Joel takes it for a spin.
The film was directed by Paul Brickman, in his first directorial effort. Despite the success of Risky Business, he would only direct one other film, 1990′s “Men Don’t Leave“.
Tom Cruise’s next film would be 1983′s “All the Right Moves“.
Rebecca De Mornay would go on to “The Slugger’s Wife” in 1985.

“Alright, who’s the U-boat commander?” You want a travesty, dumping that beautiful 928 into the lake was the travesty. Cruise was just “meh”.
)
(Hey, we each get something different out of a film. You get Rebecca, I get the 928. Beautiful bodies both!
