Bosom Buddies was an American Sitcom that aired on ABC from 1980-1982.
The show starred:
Peter Scolari – Henry Desmond
Donna Dixon – Sonny Lumet
Wendie Jo Sperber – Ami Cassidy
Holland Taylor – Ruth Dunbar
Telma Hopkins – Isabelle Hammond
and some unknown dude…
Tom Hanks – Kip Wilson
The show featured Hanks and Scolari as two single men who pose as women in order to live in the only room they can afford, which just happens to be in a women’s only hotel.
The show never garnered successful ratings and was cancelled after just two seasons and 37 total episodes. The small mumber of available episodes made it difficult to market in syndication, so the show has not been widely seen since it left the air.
The theme music for the series opening credits was the song “My Life” by Billy Joel.
Tom Hanks met wife Rita Wilson on the show when she appeared as a love interest for his character Kip. They married in 1988.
Donna Dixon went on to the films “Spies like Us” and “Doctor Detroit“, co-starring with Dan Aykroyd, and then became the current Mrs. Dan Aykroyd.
Holland Taylor has a recurring role as Alan and Charlie’s Mother on “Two and Half Men“.
Telma Hopkins went on to “Family Matters” and a number of other series.
Wendie Jo Sperber appeared in Back to the Future and a number of other movies and tv shows but passed away in 2005.
Peter Scolari went on to co-star on the long running sitcom “Newhart“.
Tom Hanks went on to become Tom Hanks, Two-Time Academy Award Winning Actor and one of the most successful movie stars in Hollywood History.

Wow, they look like babies. I cannot believe that it was only on for two years. I loved the show for that short time. Pretty lame concept, but they pulled it off pretty well. Any idea of where Peter Scolari is now, or how Wendy in 2005? Thanks for another dive into the past.

Man, who would’ve believed the level of drama out of Hanks in “Saving Private Ryan” with THIS as his debut piece?

Queen of the Courtroom – Apparently, Peter Scolari does mainly Stage Productions now, and Wendie Jo Sperber passed away in 2005 from Breast Cancer.

Okay, I know I grew up under a rock, but I’ve never heard of this show. I guess Sara rightly insists I’m a popular cultural idiot. But thank God Idiocy comes in so many shapes and sizes. We can’t have you hogging them all, Mark!
