Movie Flashback: Halloween

Halloween…… the night HE came home……

Halloween is a 1978 Horror classic.

The film marked the debut of actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who would go on to be Hollywood’s newest teen scream queen during the late 70′s and early 80′s.

The film was directed, produced, scored, and co-written by John Carpenter.

The film starred:

Jamie Lee Curtis – Laurie Strode
Donald Pleasance – Dr. Samuel Loomis
PJ Soles – Linda Van Der Klok
Nancy Kyes – Annie Brackett

Nick Castle – The Shape (Micheal Myers)

The film was an extremely low budget, independent production, costing just $325,000 to produce. The film would go on to gross over $60 Million in theaters, becoming an instant horror classic.

The mask worn by killer Michael Myers is a William Shatner “Captain Kirk” mask from “Star Trek”.

Although set in Illinois, the majority of the film was shot in Pasadena, Ca.

By far, the best known actor in the film was Donald Pleasance. He was the highest paid actor, getting $20,000 for his work.

Jamie Lee Curtis, in her film debut, made just $8,000.

Jamie Lee was 19yrs old at the time and was hired partly because she was the daughter of Janet Leigh, of “Psycho” fame, which producers thought would help with marketing the film.

The role of the “adult” Michael Myers was played by Nick Castle. He was billed as “The Shape” in the ending credits. Castle later went on to become a director and did films such as “The Last Starfighter” and “Major Payne“.

The film spawned 7 sequels.

Jamie Lee Curtis, in her new role as Scream Queen, went on to do the films “The Fog“, “Prom Night“, “Terror Train“, and “Halloween II“, before branching out into comedy with 1983′s “Trading Places“.

  1. Yep, another one I never saw. Sorry! :D

  2. No-Hio – Good Grief…..you’ve had 33 years to see that flick! 33 years!

  3. Sorry, these flicks don’t do too much for me. Now, Trading Places…… ;)

  4. No-Hio – I kinda figured the sight of Dan Aykroyd eating Salmon that is tangled in his beard would still be stuck in your memory….. that is the scene you are talking about right? :)

  5. Dan who? There was somebody else in that movie other than Jamie? :D
True story, from Jamie Lee Curtis herself. Shortly after the movie was released on home video, she would have fans just walk up to her and say “freeze frame”. Now remember, this was back in the early days, before VCRs were omnipresent. She could never figure out what “freeze frame” meant until a friend pointed out her topless scene was a favourite place to “freeze that frame” for … “extended appreciation”. ;)

  6. Always found Jaimie Lee attractive… until she got a high and tight haircut and started peddling ass-blastic yogurt.

  7. Ya know, ‘Rants, that’s why there’s a little button on the remote called “MUTE”…..
