TV Flashback: Remington Steele

One of the highly underrated shows of the 1980′s.

Remington Steele was a Comedy/Drama Detective series that aired on NBC from 1982-1987.

The series is best remembered as launching the career of Pierce Brosnan here in the US.

The show starred:

Stephanie Zimbalist – Laura Holt
Pierce Brosnan – Remington Steele
Doris Roberts – Mildred Krebs
Jack Scalia – Tony Roselli

The show revolved around private detective Laura Holt. Unable to get many clients due to her being a woman, she concocts a fictious superior detective, that she gives the name “Remington Steele“. Steele is portrayed by former con man and thief Brosnan.

The show never reveals the real name of Brosnan’s character.

Zimbalist’s character once tells Steele that she named him “After a typewriter and a Football Team“….

The series was a forerunner to the eerily similiar 80′s hit MOONLIGHTING.

Moonlighting creator Glen Gordon Caron was actually a writer on Remington Steele before leaving to do Moonlighting.

Brosnan initially auditioned for his role on the show, but was rejected because producers thought he was too unknown to American audiences.

After the series ended, Brosnan became a successful movie actor, even stepping into the role of James Bond for three films in that series.

Stephanie Zimbalist has just done sporadic work on Television since the series ended.

Doris Roberts continues to have a successful career in television, having recently won Emmy Awards for her role as Ray’s Mother on “Everybody Love’s Raymond“.

Pierce Brosnan continues to be a highly successful movie actor.

  1. Such sweet memories..loved that show…just for the eye candy?…no I’m not that shallow..oh..yes I am..still love that man!!!

  2. Another one I never watched, but the wife loves (as did my mom). Fully aware of who both of them are, though – I know Stephanie has done a lot of stage work as well.
