Another of my favorite female artists of the 1970′s.
Carly Simon is an American Singer and Songwriter.
She started her music career in New York in the 1960′s as part of a duo, “The Simon Sisters” with her sister Lucy.
The sisters made three albums together before Lucy would leave in order to start a family.
Carly Simon started her solo career in 1971.
She has released 30 Solo Albums thus far in her career.
Her hits have included:
That’s the Way I’ve always heard it should Be
You’re so Vain
Anticipation
The Right Thing to Do
Mockingbird
Haven’t got time for the pain
Attitude Dancing
Nobody Does it Better
You Belong to Me
Jesse
Coming around Again
Give me all Night
Let the River Run
and many others…
“You’re so Vain” was her only #1 hit, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Charts in 1972.
“You’re so Vain” is widely considered to be her signature hit. It is also the source of endless speculation as to who exactly she wrote the song about. At the time, she had been romantically linked with men such as Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, Mick Jagger, David Cassidy, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, and others. In a 1989 interview, she hinted that at least part of the song is about Warren Beatty. In 2003, Dick Ebersol, the President of NBC Sports, won a charity auction that included a private concert from Carly Simon, along with her whispering the name of the person targeted in the song, but only as long as Ebersol would not reveal the man’s identity. Who the song is truly about remains a mystery.
Carly Simon was married to singer James Taylor from 1972-1983. They have two daughters together.
She has won Three Grammy Awards in her career.
She won an Academy Award for Best Song in 1988 for “Let the River Run” from the film “Working Girl“.
She also won a Golden Globe Award in 1988 for the same song.
She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.
Now 66yrs old, she continues to release albums and do the occasional tour, having released her most recent album in 2009.

Her most recent album was released in 2099? And what the heck year are you from, Mr. Time Traveler?
I was gonna give you a hard time and say I never heard of her, but I can’t be that cruel after your earlier post. Know her, love her, have several albums. VERY talented lady!

Wow, hard to believe she’s that old. She looks so much better than me, and I am sooooooo much younger. It’s sad, isn’t it? Why must we age and sag?

I love Carly Simon! I used to have “You’re So Vain” on a 45 when I was a kid. Wait. That’s right, I’m supposed to be too young to remember records. Nevermind. Carly, who?

I could see why JT would dig her. She has that late 60′s look which we worshiped.

Carly Simon is psychic and wrote the song about my daughter long before she was born. I sing it to her all the time. Her stage name is Vanity Sweet. At least she knows she’s so vain.
