One of the good things about putting together these flashback posts is that I end up listening to a ton of great music from times past, and I’ve come to realize many things…including…
The 1970′s and early 1980′s were filled with great female singers!
This lady is another of my Favorites from that era, a great singer that has flown under the radar for most of her career.
Melissa Manchester is an American Singer and Songwriter.
Personally, I think she is one of the most under-appreciated artists of the 1970′s.
Like the great Carly Simon, Melissa got her start as a solo artist in New York City in the early 1970′s.
While working the club scene in New York, she was discovered by Bette Midler and Barry Manilow. Midler hired her as a backup singer in her band.
She released her debut album in 1973.
Her hits have included:
Midnight Blue
Just too many People
Just you and I
Don’t cry out loud
Through the Eyes of Love
Pretty Girls
Fire in the Morning
You Should hear how she talks about you
Thief of Hearts
Nice Girls
And many others…
She has won One Grammy Award in her career.
Her top single was “You Should Hear How She talks about You” which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Charts in 1982.
“Midnight Blue” hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary Charts in 1975.
She has also acted in productions in film, television, and on the stage.
Now 60yrs old, Melissa Manchester released her most recent album in 2004.

Definitely an under-rated singer.

“Think of me as your friend.”
Midnight Blue. All time great.
Thinking of you today, Mark. If it’s not too late, drink lots of water. It might help. The last time I was getting stabbed for the third time to get an IV, the nurse suggested I drink a lot of water the day before to hydrate myself (I guess that helps the blood volume in the veins or something. Maybe you know.)
Good luck.

Yes. Just enjoyed your Midnight Blue video. Definitely going to stop by iTunes today and put a little Melissa Manchester on my iPod.
I love how you are reminding me of my old favorites. You probably didn’t realize you were providing a community service.
