Music Flashback: Bruce Hornsby

Bruce Hornsby is an American Singer, Songwriter, Pianist, and Musician.

His music incorporates elements of Classical, Jazz, Bluegrass, Motown, Rock, and the Blues.

He formed his noted band, “Bruce Hornsby and the Range” in 1984.

That group’s first hit, “The Way it is“, would be his biggest hit to date, hitting #1 on the Billboard Charts in 1986.

Bruce Hornsby and the Range” would go on to win the Best New Artist Grammy Award at the 1987 Grammy Awards.

Bruce Hornsby’s hits have included:

Every Little Kiss
The Way it is
Mandolin Rain
The Valley Road
Look out any Window
Across the River
A Night on the Town
Set me in Motion
Harbor Lights

and many others…

Starting in 1988, Bruce Hornsby set aside time in order to play as part of “The Grateful Dead“, performing with the group for over 100 shows, up until the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995.

When the Grateful Dead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, Bruce Hornsby was their presenter.

Bruce Hornsby released his first solo album in 1993.

In 2000, he started working with a new backing band, and that group became known as “Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers“. That group is still active and released their most recent album in 2009.

In the world of Jazz, he also participates as part of “The Bruce Hornsby Trio“, performing at Jazz Festivals and clubs throughout the country.

To date, Bruce Hornsby has won Three Grammy Awards in his career.
