Music Flashback: The Moody Blues

The Moody Blues are a British rock band first formed in Birmingham, England in 1964.

The pioneering group was one of the first to fuse rock and classical music.

The first incarnation of The Moody Blues was comprised of:

Michael Pinder – Piano, Guitar, vocals
Ray Thomas – Vocals, Flute
Denny Laine – Instrumentalist, vocals
Graeme Edge – Drums
Clint Warwick – Bass

The groups first album was released in 1965.

By 1966, Warwick and Laine had left the group and were replaced by Bassist John Lodge and Vocalist and Guitarist Justin Hayward.

Denny Laine would go on to be one of the founders of Paul McCartney and Wings in 1971.

The group had a number of hits during the late 1960′s and early 1970′s before going on hiatus in 1974.

The group reformed in 1977 and added former “Yes” keyboard player Patrick Moraz to the band.

Various incarnations of the band have recorded and toured as The Moody Blues ever since reforming in 1977.

The Moody Blues have released 16 Studio Albums thus far in their career.

Tuesday Afternoon
Ride my Seesaw
Question
The Story in your Eyes
Isn’t life strange
I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band
Steppin in a Slide Zone
Gemini Dream
The Voice
Sittin at the Wheel
In your Wildest Dreams
I know your out there somewhere

and many more….

Their top hit in the USA was “Nights in White Satin” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Charts in 1967.

The group has sold over 70 Million albums worldwide.

The group still tours frequently and today features longtime members Graeme Edge, John Lodge, and Justin Hayward.

  4. Bella – The kid and I visited Red Rocks this past summer. Would kill to actually see a concert there. Looks like an amazing place. The day we were there, 2,000 people were running up and down the steps…. :)

  6. For my generation these guys were in a finite group revered as messengers and prophets of our time and its music. Dylanesque in their particular style.
