Bonnie Tyler is a Welsh Singer, popular during much of the 1970′s and 1980′s.
She was born Gaynor Hopkins in 1951.
During the early 1970′s, she performed under the stage name Sherene Davies.
Upon signing her first recording contract in 1975, she changed her stage name to Bonnie Tyler.
She released her first album in 1977.
Later in 1977, she had to undergo surgery for nodules on her vocal chords. She was ordered to not speak for 6 weeks as part of the healing process, but ended up loudly yelling one day out of frustration. She credits this with giving her singing voice it’s now distinctive raspy quality.
She has released 16 Studio Albums thus far in her career.
Her hits have included:
It’s a Heartache
More than a Lover
Lost in France
Married Men
Total eclipse of the Heart
Holding out for a Hero
Faster than the Speed of Night
Making Love out of Nothing At All
Her top hit here in the US was “Total Eclipse of the Heart” which reached #1 on the Billboard Charts in 1983.
Her biggest fan in the entire WORLD is Mr. John Erickson of the great state of Ohio. Since I started doing these flashback posts, John has reminded me no less than 184 times that I needed to profile his dreamgirl, Bonnie Tyler.
Now 60yrs old, Bonnie Tyler still frequently performs around the globe.

Good thing “Gaynor” changed her name. “Gaynor” sounds like a condition TMI Granny might have!

Oh, I don’t know if I’m her BIGGEST fan. Just one of the more persistent. And speaking of persistence, where’s the feature on Kylie, huh?
By the way, I am a TEMPORARY RESIDENT of Ohio. (In deference to your other Buckeye readers, I will refrain from an argument over the title “Great state of Ohio”.)

No-Hio – I always thought you said you were a “prisoner” of the State of Ohio?
I’ll get to working on Kylie…..

Total Eclipse of the Heart = song from all my high school dances that you thought was over 124751 times, but each time, it had more to go. Jim Steinman….

If she lost her legs, would she have been a half-Gaynor?

I’m from Brazil and my biggest dream is to know Bonnie Tyler. I love all her songs. Conhce’ll never know it because I am poor, but deep inside my heart I hope to see it one day and say how much I love. Tedy Brazil.
